It’s no surprise that Glow is one of our top-selling smokeless fuels. It offers exceptional value for money and produces excellent results every time. So, if you’re looking for a high-quality fuel that is versatile and efficient, Glow is definitely worth considering.

Approved ANTHRACITE Smokeless Coal

Anthracite is the hardest and most energy-dense type of coal, making it the final stage of coal formation. It has a low moisture content of only around 4% and a high carbon content of less than 90%. These properties result in a slow combustion process that gives off a significant amount of heat.

If you live in a smoke-controlled zone or want to reduce your carbon footprint, anthracite is the perfect choice. It burns with a smokeless and clean flame, emitting low levels of sulphur and volatiles. Smokeless coal is not only more environmentally friendly, but also more efficient than traditional coal. It can burn up to 40% longer and emit up to a third more heat than traditional coal.

When you choose our premium smokeless anthracite coal, your fire will keep you warmer for longer. This means you’ll need to refuel your stove and restock on coal less often, reducing the amount of money you spend on fuel. With its superior properties and benefits, anthracite is an excellent choice for anyone looking for an efficient and eco-friendly fuel option.

House Coal Trebles (Wales & Scotland ONLY)*

As of March 2023, Bituminous House Coal has been banned from sale in England due to its harmful impact on the environment. This type of coal has been widely used worldwide for various purposes, thanks to its high heat output and low ash content, which makes it a cost-effective option. However, in light of recent concerns over air pollution and climate change, it's important to consider alternative fuel options.

Traditional House Coal has been a popular choice in the UK for decades. It is often used in open fires and some coal-burning appliances. This type of coal is easy to light, burns with a long and strong flame, and has a low ash content, making it relatively easy to clean up afterwards.

While Traditional House Coal may still be a viable option for some, it's important to consider the impact of burning coal on the environment and explore alternative fuel sources that are more sustainable and more eco-friendly.

  • Easy to light
  • Burns with a long, naturally attractive flame
  • Low Ash Content
  • Sourced from UK mines
  • Not for use in smoke-controlled zones

All Approved Coal Merchants have to follow a consumer charter and follow the coal trade code. We adhere to the following Rules:

– Supply good quality coal and smokeless fuels correctly described
– Ensure that packed fuels are marked with the maximum information
– Ensure that employees have a basic knowledge of the retail coal trade
– Supply suitable fuels for particular appliances

Ready to Burn legislation came into force in England on 1 May 2021. This new law will ban the sale of the most polluting fuels used in homes; wet wood and house coal. The new law also applies to the sale of manufactured solid fuels. These fuels need to meet certain standards to be listed as Ready to Burn from 1 May 2021. A “manufactured solid fuel” means a fuel produced from coal, wood, plant-derived materials, waxes, or petroleum products with other ingredients. For the purpose of burning in domestic properties in England.

HETAS, the non-profit organisation, has been appointed by Defra to run its Ready to Burn certification scheme for manufactured solid fuels.

Yes, all smokeless coal can be stored outside. However, we would always recommend a Coal Bunker or suitable cover which allows good air flow and keeps the coal off the ground.

FURTHER DELIVERY PRICES & INFORMATION

Smokeless coal has several characteristics that make it an ideal fuel for your multi-fuel stove. It has a high heat output and burns cleanly, leaving behind less ash and no visible residue. This means that it is less likely to cause problems with your flue, stove, and stove glass.

In contrast, normal coal can leave behind a messy residue of soot and tar that can be difficult to clean up and can cause damage to your stove and flue. By using smokeless coal, you can enjoy a cleaner burn with fewer problems and less maintenance. Overall, smokeless coal is a practical and convenient choice for anyone looking to heat their home with a multi-fuel stove.

The optimal burning performance of your appliance is influenced by multiple factors, including the appliance itself and the level of draft from your chimney.
